i underwent a minor surgery this afternoon after work. The dentist extracted the upper and lower wisdom teeth on the right side of my mouth as they were badly infected. I have had difficult nights and days, as a matter of fact, since last wednesday b4 this extraction. Before going to bed, I had to pop in panadol extra to relieve me of the excruciating pain. Otherwise i won't be able to sleep.
Decided to see the dentist before it's too late and he said he needed to extract both of it immediately due to the bad infection. And he said, my teeth are tough ones cos' they are BIG. They are bigger than the molars and their legs are very long and so they are embedded deep inside the gum. The lower wisdom tooth had 3 legs also instead of the normal 2. So, extracting my wisdom teeth posed a challenge to the dentist. But, he is a very good dentist with nimble fingers. He is very gentle and assuring. And the process is not at all painful as I was numbed. The pain only came 1 1/2 hour after that. It was bad. I felt intense pain at around 4pm this afternoon and wanted to pop in another painkiller but think twice cos' I just had the painkiller at 3pm while still at the dentist! Convinced myself to relax and to stop thinking about the pain and kept telling myself: it's not painful and voila..the intense pain slowly dissipates, giving way to mild pain..do i make sense to you? Nvmind. Blame it on the loss of my wisdom.
It's really mind over matter. It's psychological. If you keep telling youself you're in pain, reminding yourself of the pain, your muscles would contract and the pain would become more intense. So, you have to psyche yourself and relax and remain calm and distract yourself from the pain. Only then will your muscles loosen up and the pain will be reduced drastically! That was the way i psyche myself and it works!
When my sis came back, I kept talking like nobody's business. Reiterated to her the whole episode, which I will gladly do so now: Dentist x-rayed my teeth and put on the surgical drape over me. Then he put some wishy-washy sounding instrument into my mouth. Then, he numbed my gum. Before he proceed to extract my teeth, he covered my eyes but I could peep underneath the cover and watched everything: the time my teeth were removed to the time he stitched my gums. Saw the needle and thread going in and out, in and out. It was quite an experience! At the end of my story, she asked me: How come you can still talk so much?! haha!
And for this, I am on 3 Days
MC. Actually it was supposed to be 5 days MC but since I extracted it on a weekend, Sat and Sun are within that 5 days, I only get 3 days next week!Argh! Wasted! But I can't compromise another 2 more days for this excruciating pain!
Well, if you think my torture is over. Not yet. Dentist said I would have to extract the left side of my wisdom teeth as well, both upper and lower. Else, it'd get badly infected as the right one too. It's not cheap and i really mean it. It's NOT CHEAP.
I have spent so much $$ on my personal well-being..
