Its funny how, it takes an outsider to make me realize the reason as to why I am such a health nut.
The sympathy invoked through hearing and reading stories of those suffering from critical illness is totally different than to witness it happening to an immediate family member yourself. That wealth of a health being taken away at such a young age over a prolonged period of time is totally heart wrenching. It has been 16 years and still counting, still going for treatments, and still taking 'em medications. The emotional turmoil that inflicted every member of the family, the financial problems, the sacrifices that comes with it, the surge of responsibilities that falls on everyone's shoulders, the need to quickly mature way beyond one’s absolute age, the need to understand the situation, the 50-50 chance of survival. Totally daunting. All of it. And extremely challenging. Life is so fragile. With HIS guidance, we emerged triumph..... Alhamdulillah. My mom may be physically small but she is one very tough lady... Thanks Ibu for all the sacrifices that you've made, single-handedly no less.......
And due to this very long episode, I unconsciously became a health freak. I watched my diet and I used to exercise regularly; twice a week. That explains the stab of devastation I felt when the latest annual health check up reported on my moderately high cholesterol level. All these years, I've always been given the clean bill of health with acceptable cholesterol level, no less. Since the discovery, I've been watching my food intake and have been gulping down avocado juice in my bid to bring the high cholesterol level down. A bit too harsh on myself eh? But hey I love avocado so it's okie to gulp them down almost everyday..yum yumz and i suspect it's also the main culprit for my weight gain..I like! I digress. Well, she made me realized that me being a health freak could perhaps be my unconscious reaction to the very long episode.
It's important to keep ourselves healthy.
Health is indeed wealth.
