National Family Celebrations 2010
I pledge to bake for my family on weekends. The way to a family’s heart is through the stomach. One of the many ways, may I add.
That’s my mantra in life and I used to bake a lot, before my trusty oven breathe its last. So the story goes like this: She has been ignored for a while, too long a while that she just ‘burst’ when I finally decided to acknowledge her existence yet again. By ‘burst’, I meant, angry smoke bellowed out of her, causing a power trip to the whole house. Husband reacted,” What did you do?” Oops! She, my poor oven, couldn’t be resuscitated, thereafter.
I’ve since gotten a new oven (the old oven is still sorely missed but she has served me well for 4 years, so yeah, I take comfort in that) and I therefore pledge to bake for my family on weekends. Actually, it doesn’t have to be baking per se. As long as it has to do with the oven, i.e. grilling or roasting, it will give me an adrenaline high. It also gives me a great sense of fulfilment to have my grills and my bakes savored by my loved ones.
Baked with love, for my loved ones, Sweet!
As a child, I was always looking forward to my mom’s cooking and her bakes. My mom who was a stay-at-home-mom then, cooks every single day. She’d come up with a lot of delicacies whether by baking or by traditional over-the-stove cooking. And I’d love to have now, my own son, looking forward to his mom’s cooking and her bakes, i.e. mine! As a full time working mom, I hope to be able to bake for my family on weekends, the least.
To be in our family’s memories tomorrow, we need to be in their lives today. So, baking and grilling will be one of my ways of showing how precious my family is to me.
Here are my recent bakes, to motivate me further.
